Gov. Haley Barbour has called lawmakers to the State Capitol for a special session beginning at 9 a.m. tomorrow to consider a $300-million economic development project that would create hundreds of new jobs in Mississippi, according to a statement from the Governor’s Office.
The company has requested that it not be publicly identified at this point in the process, but published reports indicate that Washington State-based PACCAR Inc. will build a powertrain manufacturing and assembly facility for its Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks at the 394-acre site in Lowndes County site. Production would begin in 2008.
Barbour said he would ask legislators to consider a $48.4-million package of state-backed bonds to land the project that would see 500 initial direct full-time jobs.
